Basketball Boys and God's Heart

Both my boys are playing basketball this season.
I should tell you right now, that I am THAT mom. The wildly cheering one. Yep, that's me.
Oh, and I love basketball. I played all throughout my school years and I just love it so.
When BOTH my boys wanted to play this year, I was thrilled!

J's early morning first grade games are filled with running, clumping together and wild passes.
(by the way, we'll be so thankful when we aren't on the earliest part of next season rotation! 8 on Saturday mornings is not our friend)
J's team is made up of boys from his school, but they play on in a small church legague. It's very cute and friendly. A great beginning learning environment.

C is playing on the middle school team for his school. It is not cute or friendly. It is incrediably competetive and filled with flying elbows, cheering parents and filled with thrills and heartbreak.
While C is not the best on the team, he is filled with heart and love for his team and team mates.

And, I LOVE cheering for my kids, although I have decided that middle school basketball is probably taking years off of my life. Years I tell you.
C has been with most of the boys on his team since kindergarten and they are a great group of boys. And, let's face it you want to see your kids team win.

C works hard and does his best and I am so proud of him. Last week he had an amazing rebound/pass and I couldn't contain my excitment. I was yelling and cheering to beat the band.
When he ran back down the court, I saw him glance my way and give me a quick smile.
He knew he did good, and he knew I knew he did good.

I've been thinking about that this week.
About how much we want our kids to succeesed and how proud we are of them when they do and how we feel it to our core when they don't. Their heartbreak becomes ours.

If I feel that way about my babies how much more must the Father care for me?
After all, He is he author and creator of love. His love for me is perfect.

He wants me to succeed, He is there cheering me on-willing me to keep going. And not only Him, but all those Saints who've gone before me. They are cheering us on-telling us not to quit, to keep running.
Not to give up. . .keep pressing on.
And, OFTEN I am not the best on the team. But, my heart is for Him.
And, for my Heavenly Father that is enough. Any kind of talent I might posses is nothing without Him.

Perhaps, you are feeling like you are falling behind and can't keep up. That no matter how hard you try you just can't do it.
Know that God has a plan for your life and He is cheering you on!

However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him—” - 1 Corinthians 2:9

Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! Heb 12:1 (the Message)

Keep pressing on, Friends-I am cheering for you too!
