Fifty reasons to say NO

Books.

Movies.

It seems this is the summer to bombard women with pornography aimed straight at them.

And make no mistake that is  exactly what it is.

And while, I guess I'm not so surprised about the fact that these things are being written and produced, I am

surprised at the level of which Christian women are flocking to them.

As if we're no different at all.

It's almost like we're children saying 'nah nah boo boo', to a society that's created this garbage for men for so long.

But, in our attempts to 'get back' or, at least, level the playing the field in this area will only come back
and hurt us more.

Because, just like for men, pornography kills you from the inside out.

It deadens you to what is actually real.

And suddenly you become dissatisfied with your flesh and blood spouse, maybe not today, but given exposure to it long enough, you will.

Or if you don't have a spouse, no ordinary man will ever be able to fill the fantasy driven scenes in your mind.

Because everyday life is harder than some book, and more real than any Hollywood movie could ever be.

Suddenly, the man who holds back the hair of your little one while they're sick isn't glamours enough because he doesn't have a six pack, or doesn't read your every thought.

That same man who works hard everyday is now boring, because real life isn't always a party. And sometimes, well he's just tired.

Hey, I KNOW men have had this stuff available to them for decades-if not longer-.  . .

But, is that really how we're going to justify reading and watching pornography?

Our standard is never mans, but a Holy God's.
And don't ever be naive and think He doesn't care about what your feeding your soul.

Lest you read this and think I'm sitting in judgement of you if you've already read the book or seen the movie, I promise I don't.
That is not my intent.

But, if I saw you drowning I would jump in to save you, not watch from the side lines.

Walk in the light,

Thanks for sharing this Angie! I was invited by some girls at work to go see the movie last night and had to say "no". This was hard! First of all I am the "new girl" and it was the first social invitation that has been extended to me. Second they asked "why?". My answer was simply this, I wouldnt approve of my husband seeing a movie about women strippers, so it would make me a hypocrite for me to go. Its out of respect for him. There was some mild scoffing, but they let it go.

Oh, being the new girl is NEVER easy! So proud of you for not only standing up, but doing it in a gentle way.

And yes, I had the same feelings-If J came home and said "Hey, I'm going to a stripper movie with all my buddies on Friday" -well OK would be the LAST thing I would say. ;)

I am so out of the loop that I have NO idea what you are talking about...but I think I heard something about some book called Momma porn or something. Still haven't a clue; and am rather glad of it I think!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for saying exactly what I have been thinking and voicing!! As a wife of a husband who struggles with this addiction, I know durst hand the damage and devastation it causes to husbands, wives, and , children. More and mOre women are becoming sex addicts and the world is trying to make it okay. I hate this for all of us!!

@Tonya, yes just be glad you don't know!

@Anonymous, I've read some startling statistics about women and pornography. Sad and sicking.
Frankly, I'm sure many of the women who have gone to see this movie or read the book don't (or won't) realize it's soft core porn because we've become so deadened as a society.

It absolutely NEVER hurts just yourself.

Praying for all of us, that we would guard our hearts and minds!

Interesting post Angie; it is something that has been on my mind a lot lately. In fact, I am leading a Bible study that speaks directly to this called "Every Woman's Battle," which begins in a couple of weeks. I am a little nervous, but trusting that God's Word will be heard and proclaimed.

Will pray for courage for you to continue speaking the truth & wisdom He gives you. "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."-Hebrews 4:12 We seem to keep wanting to call sin something else, unfortunately.

thanks Andrea! I've got another coming that I'm sure will breed more 'hate' email.
I appreciate you praying for courage for me-I need it!

And, I would NEVER want anyone to get the impression that I think I'm all that or that I have it all together-BUT we must reach out when we see others being sucked into a snare of Satan's.

Angie-

Thank you so much for writing the truth God has put on your heart. Many of my peers are reading the Shades Trilogy and wanting to see the new movie as well. It is hard to be the outcast at times by saying no. But I know without a shadow of a doubt God calls us to live life on this earth to His Biblical standards and not carnal cravings or peer pressure. Thank you for your truth and courage.

THANK YOU for the encouragement !

Thank you for putting into words what I have been feeling about this. Just because things such as these have been available to men for quite some time does not make them okay- for men or for women!

You're welcome-and it's only because of the Grace I have so graciously received from a loving God that I can. . .and that I do, because I want to spare others from the pain of bad choices I've made.

Angie! Thank you for making us stop and ponder about the subject of women and porn. It's happening so why aren't more of us talking about it? You've started the conversation so let's keep the ball rolling! In love let us encourage one another to guard our heart and mind against what our culture tells us is the norm. We CAN and WILL stand firm.

Last night while we were at dinner the waiter innocently asked us what we were doing after dinner as my hubby and I were actually on a date. We told him just grabbing a movie because there was nothing we saw in the theatre that we seemed interested in...he then told us that was a good idea...because his friend that is a girl is dragging him to a movie called "Magic Mike"...my hubby and I don't want tv so we had NO idea what he was talking about...he then told us its about a male stripper...my eyes must have kept blinking...because I could NOT process this because I had seen sooo many statuses on my facebook for my friends going to see it....he looked at us and rolled his eyes and said he had NO desire to see it and would be getting a bunch of snacks and bathroom breaks during it...I was soo shocked about it that I couldn't really concentrate on dinner. How sad that we as christian women think that this is ok to go watch...that this is fun...that this is Holy and right???? Can you imagine your hubby saying to you I'm going to go watch a move about a female stripper k??? I personally know from EXPERIENCE about pornography and what it does to a family...and all I can say is "WOW" what are we thinking as Christian women? Sorry to babble for so long...perhaps I should post on my own blog???? Thanks for standing up!

Thanks Jamie!
It's certainly been an interesting week since I published this post.
There has only been one other post to cause this much controversy and generated as much hate mail.
But, I'll say it again, I'm not talking about 'judgment' I'm talking about discernment.
For those of us who are Jesus followers, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us-the power of the Living God.
Use it!
My concern is not out of some pious observations but out of concern and love.
Grace and Peace!
